The Beefmobile

The Beefmobile was part of the Beef Tent at Maine Farm Days. The Maine Beef Industry Council MBIC: administers the national $1 beef checkoff and implements programs to increase consumption of beef and veal products.  Judy Powell is Executive Director. 207/549-5972 mbic@midmaine.com.  Read our monthly industry letters for news about what MBIC is doing. Go to MBIC section.  Click Here for past letters.  Federal law passed in 1985 requires $1 per head on all bovines animals - whether for consumption, breeding stock, replacements, feeders, or bob calves - to be remitted, and all beef and dairy producers/marketers are required to pay.

The Maine Beef Producers Association MBPA: Production education and program coordination, planning and legislative dealings, industry advocacy, and new program development in both marketing and production.  Membership is open to everyone interested in the beef industry by paying $30 annual dues. Supporting the industry is the University of Maine Cooperative Extension (UMCE) (http://www.umaine.edu/livestock/).  Dee Potter Livestock Specialist works out of UMCE Fort Kent in Aroostook County 1-800-287-1421.  Maine's key Extension staffers support, plan, and provide education, field technical assistance, association support, live grading, and industry advocacy, and more. The Maine Department of Agriculture lends support through Production Specialist Clint Giustra at 207/287-7430 clinton.v.giustra@maine.gov  Clint manages Maine's BQA, MeChaps, livestock homeland security, weighing and grading, cattle events, and more.
